We help ensure that all Jewish homes in the Five Towns and Rockaways have food to put on their table each Shabbos. We are the only Tomchei organization in our area, and we are a 100% volunteer-run charity.
We are blessed to live in one of the most prominent and affluent Jewish communities in the world.
Yet, there are still those in our midst who struggle to afford even basic foodstuffs. Tomchei Shabbos, a 501 (c) (3), ensures that all of our neighbors, no matter how needy, have fresh and wholesome food with which to look forward to and enjoy every Shabbos and Yom Tov. We currently support approximately 285 families on a weekly basis, with many more receiving assistance before Pesach. Our 2020 budget is projected to be over $700,000. All of the packaging and distribution is done by volunteers. Students at TAG, and volunteers at Young Israel of Woodmere, spend their Thursday afternoons assembling the packages. More volunteers then come to pick up the packages and discreetly deliver them to the anonymous recipients.
We invite you to partner with Tomchei Shabbos and help ensure food, peace of mind, and kavod Shabbos for all of our neighbors in the Five Towns and Far Rockaway.
